[SOLVED] do i have the wrong dvi cable

I have a a gtx 1080 connected to a 24" benq monitor and the desktop display tab is showing the refresh rate set to 144 Hz.
After looking at somebody elses post i am wondering if i am using the wrong cable , if you look at the connector types in this wiki article it seems i am using DVI-D do i need to change it to DVI- I or is it just the full row of pins that is the important bit , i dont currently have a spare DV-I cable

Forgot to say it is the full row of pins version i am using ... dual link

If you are getting the option for and using 144Hz then your cable is fine. DVI-I has extra pins for analog and likely your monitor only has DVI-D and a DVI-I cable won't plug into it because of those extra pins.
