do I have to buy new thermal paste

I am buying a new cpu off ebay which comes without thermal paste applied. Am I able to just recover the thermal paste which is on my current cpu and use that on the new one or do i have to buy new thermal paste. Thanks

Performance of thermal paste these days is generally equal, unless you go for the expensive speciallity stuff.

Testing, a little out of date, but should still give you the information to make decision on newer products.

If you went Arctic Silver MX-4, you'd be fine, as it gives pretty solid temps. Lower temps require the more specialized stuff, IC Diamond, Thermal Grizzly, etc.
