I got a technician and he confirmed that I can put a SSD M.2 to my PC but that it requires to reinstall windows 10. I don't have a product key but I have a digital license and if windows 10 is reinstalled, will it erase everything even the D drive?

So do I have to get it reinstalled or can I get the drive cloned? The SSD is Samsung 980 Pro.

Solution
I think the best way to do it...is clone it.
That's what I do.

Install some cloning software. I use Aomei. Lot's of people use Macrium. They're free.
Power down...add the M2 and power up and make sure it's recognized by Windows and formatted.
Clone to the M2.
Power down...remove all drives but the M2.
Power up...go to BIOS...make sure M2 is recognized and set BIOS to boot from it.
Boot from it.
All should be good.
Power down and add other drives.
