Hi, i have a new gtx 760 and i am going to fit it inside my pc soon, i would like to know if i put the disk in and install the drivers before i put the graphics card in it's slot or do i install them after?
It's graphics card first, then drivers...for the simple reason that if you were building a PC from scratch without integrated graphics, how would you be able to install the drivers for the card without a display? (The OS has some built-in drivers for basic output.)
It's also recommended to uninstall the old graphics drivers first.
what's the point of installing drivers if there's no new hardware to read
In fairness, there's quite a bit of non-graphics hardware out there that requires driver installation prior to hardware installation, and leads to real headaches if done in the reverse order.
You probably should install the GPU first, lol. Then get the drivers, what's the point of installing drivers if there's no new hardware to read
Well there are devices require it the other way around - wifi usb sticks i've had for instance. AND there's many a motherboard - or used to be at least - with onboard vga.
the question doesn't state whether or not he's using onboard graphics right now. in which case 'common sense' could easily say to him - how are you going to see the install dvd if you're not plugged into your existing graphics?
Or to put it another way: if you don't need the drivers to use the graphics card what are the drivers for?
And that's the hidden message no one bothers to put upfront: 'You can use this card without drivers' because they have a default low res mode. I just installed a ge1050 like that. first time i have ever done so. yep.
Would have been nice if I'd known that: 'Don't need drivers to use this card'. Not a super cheap card. But they still didn't bother to explain. Figure everyone would know I suppose.
