Do I lose much with this gpu?

Solution
Because 7970 are outdated. And op asked if hes going to lose performance if he choses gtx 780 over 780ti. Answering to that question yes you are going to get less performance, but that gtx780 its already a great gpu, and a little overclock can get it close to gtx 780ti performance :)

The 780Ti is better than the 780.
But if you overclock that MSI 780, its possible you can achieve 780Ti like performance.
Personally I'd buy that first 780Ti, then save up money for a water cooler or better fan cooler.
Then it'll outshine that second one perfectly.

Yeah I've got a corsair liquid cooling system, I'm going back tomorrow so I'll see if they'll order the ti in, I think it's just because they have everything else in stock apart from the particular gpu, thanks :)

I stay away from AMD because their cards are hot and loud.
Even with better coolers, you can't overclock as well as NVidia cards.
Cheap strong cards yes, but some people are sensitive to those 2 factors.

I prefer nVidia much more than AMD, but what you said is simply not true, i already had 2 amds with artifact problems tho and they were the quietest and cooler cards ive ever had until my current gtx 770. AMD cards are cool and quiet if you get a good brand with a good cooling system.
And that "nvidia overlocks better" its not true at all, the thaiti xt chip is better to overclock than GK104.
Still i prefer nvidia over amd, but if you consider the prices, r9 290x > gtx 780, if you are only thinking in performance gtx 780 ti > r9 290x
