do I need a graphics card for M5A97 EVO R2.0

I am going to build my first pc, and as im not too sure how it's going to go, can I use my motherboard to connect to a monitor without a graphic card?

Because that motherboard is for FX series CPUs which don't come with an inbuilt GPU you will need to buy an external one to run a monitor. Something cheap like a Nvidia G210 or RAdeon HD 5450.
