Do I need a HDD or SSD to boot to BIOS?

Exactly what the title says. I'm trying to breadbox my mobo with only my CPU, fan, RAM, and onboard graphics. No post, no BIOS, no beeps. Do some mobo models require you to have a boot device to get to BIOS? I have th MSI Z270 PC Mate

No you don't need any SSD or HDD to boot in BIOS. Because the data are stored in CMOS memory on motherboard.
