Do I need a new battery?

A long time ago I had a laptop. I got it old and now it is even older. In fact, it was almost useless. So I decided to take it apart, and after putting it back together it could no longer boot. I figured it was a power failure caused by something being hooked up incorrectly on my part, but about two years later, I decided to try something obvious that I hadn't though of trying before.

I plugged in the power cable without the battery, and like magic, it worked. When it was booting, the computer confirmed that it was indeed a power failure, and when the battery is charged, I press the button on it, and the lights blink in a pattern. I don't remember what the pattern was though.

Laptop batteries do not last forever.
If your laptop is to be used unplugged, you probably need a new battery.

If you want to resurrect it, I suggest looking into changing out the hard drive for a ssd.
The performance difference is remarkable.

I mostly use it as a sort of test dummy for whatever I might be experimenting at the moment. However I may consider getting it a new hard drive, because there are some things that can't be done with the drive I have now.
