Do I need a new laptop battery?

Hello my old laptop battery for my asus gl502vmk was swollen and it wasnt charging properly like forever saying 30 mins till fully charge etc. Therefore i got rid of it after about 2 to 3 years of usage. So should i get a new one? I keep my laptop plugged in 99% of the time. I dont have any problem with electric outage but the thing that's bothering me is firmware update because i can't upgrade my firmware without battery (can't bypass ez flash for asus).

Unless the update includes a fix for a problem you have I wouldn’t worry. A genuine OEM replacement battery will be expensive and cheap alternatives are in my experience a waste of money. The money spent on a new battery could go towards a new laptop, you could buy a new battery and then something else fails.
