Do I need a new monitor?

Hey guys, so recently I've invested in a new PC (I'll list my parts below). I've been reading a lot about 144hz monitors and 1440p gaming and to be honest I'm a bit confused by it all. The monitor I already have is an AOC e2250swnk (1080p, 60hz) but I don't know now if I need a 144hz monitor or what?

Intel i5 4690
GeForce GTX970 G1
Freezer Pro 7 CPU Cooler
Kingston Fury RAM (1x8GB)
Samsung 850-evo 250GB SSD
Western Digital 1TB HDD 7200 RPM
MSI Z97 PC Mate Motherboard
Corsair 600W Modular PSU

Money's a bit tight after buying all this, but I can save up if it's really neccessary for me to get a better monitor. Thanks in advance to those who help me out.

No, the 970 will never even reach 144Hz on a 1440p monitor, you'd want a 980Ti for that. And 1080p is the sweet spot for the 970.
