so im kinda new to pc building. i bought my pc pre built a few years ago for $900. it came with an i7-7700, gtx 1060 and 16gbs of ram. i recently started to slowly upgrade it, i put in a 2080 super and a 750w power supply. now im looking for a new cpu because mine is bottlenecking the 2080, and im looking at an i7 9700k and possibly some more ram. will i need a new motherboard for this? sorry if its a dumb question, motherboards are the part that i know least about. thank you.

Yes. You'll need a new motherboard for i7-9700k.
9th gen requires 300 series board - z390, if you want to use OC features.
You can use B365 also, but without OC.

Asrock has a BFB tech that allows B365 to work a non K CPU and have a immediate boost of clock as if was overclock which would translate in more performance ouf of the CPU. It's a interesting tech if you want to save some money on the mobo.
