Hello, I'm going to upgrade my graphic card from a GTX 750ti to a Rx 580. My current power supply is a modular CX500M but the problem is that my PC was mounted in other country and they didn't send me all the cables that came with the power supply, so I have just the necessary ones. The card needs 1 x 8-pin + 1 x 6-pin so the question is: can I just buy the cables and use then normally because it's a modular power supply or do I need to get a new one?

Solution
I think that there really isn't much of a magic answer.

New GPU at that tier would require you to upgrade your PSU, it's not enough long term (your 500w).

You'll spend time+money trying to figure out your cabling... Only to burn out your PSU once you set it up. It'll work, but it won't last. Upgrade is inevitable.

You need to get the cables specific for that model of PSU. PSU modular cables are not interchangeable between brands and sometimes even models of the same brand.

Corsair or even Amazon should be able to source the exact cable you need.

You can buy cables to fit your power supply. But often those cables are more expensive or... Near price of a new PSU. If you are in North America, it's best to get yourself a new power supply. Although you should be able to run that rx580, depending on the rest of your system, it will likely be power starved. You should be running at least 550w with that card.

I just have the cables for the drives and for the motherboard because my actual card doesn't need any cable, so I guess that won't work.

Oh god, that's big headache for me. I think I will opt for a new one then.

I live in Spain so that'll be a tad more expensive, but thanks for the suggestion.
