!! Do I NEED a NEW PSU??!! TBIRD 1.4~

Hello,
Wondering if I need a new PSU and if so how much wattage. I plan on having a K7S5A mobo, 256mb DDR, floppy, 75GXP 7200 RPM HardDrive, Soundblaster Live, Modem, LAN, Decent Graphics Card (maybe you can also suggest one), CD-Rom, 2 CD-RW(unless do you know if with this system I should be able to burn 2 cd's at the same time? or to much strain?), Tbird 1.4ghz or 1.2 ghz.... Lemme know please. Thanks (also any suggestions on a good fan)

Currently I have a 250 watt. I am already assured I must upgrade, but what to? I don't think I want to upgrade next time I upgrade my computer so for future products maybe to... 365 or 431 enermax seem good...... Anyways is the name really worth the extra money? Thanks

It's not the name that makes these PSUs expensive, it's the features and quality. Enermax's PSUs help cool the system better because they have an extra fan. They are AMD and Intel certified and recommended. They can better sustain the power they're feeding to the processor and other components. All their cables are gold plated for better conductivity.

250W is too little, you may experience problems. Get the 350W Enermax PSU (model 365) if you're not planning to add a lot of high-power components in the future (such as multiple IDE or SCSI hard drives). Get the 430W Enermax for future assurance that the PSU will be able to handle you're next upgrade. In fact, there are some people in this forum who have 530W Power Supply. While is may be excessive for a regular system, it will be needed if you plan to super-cool your system.

250-Watts is too small for this system. Don't even try to run it on that or you risk damage. With a T-bird, 4 IDE devices, plus (I'm assuming) 2 or 3 case fans and a 3d video card, 350-Watts would be the minimum I would use. Personally, I use the Enermax 465-Watt Dual-fan model in my system. I have a T-bird 1.33, 6 IDE devices (3 hds, 2 cd, 1 zip), 3 case fans and a Geforce 2 GTS card. It runs quite nicely.

One other consideration... the Enermax PSU's are very quiet.

Question: Would you prefer to have a high-performance PSU in your new system, with redundancy for adding additional components in the future ... and one that can really help keep your new system cool?

I only have this to say:
I upgraded my 300W no-name PSU (din't realy have any stability problems) with an Enermax PSU and my case temps
according to Asus motherboard monitor dropped 10F. What a difference!

go to pricewatch to find the best price when you figure out what kind to buy. You should go to a benchmark to find the best test on power the unit.
