Just installed a MSI HD7770 and was wondering if I still needed to upgrade my PSU.

I currently have a Dell 8000 with a 350 psu. Checked with various wattage sites and all have put my total system min in the range of 310 - 336 with the recommended at no higher than 363.

It is installed and running smooth right now.

what do you mean by amp rating on +12V rail? My system is a Dell xps 8000 with a Core I7 860 processor. The current psu is a 350 watt unit.
Hope that helps enough. At work, could take a pic later.

Thanks

little larger than you currently need, but you might look at the XFX 550 Watt.......5 yr warranty and actually made by Seasonic

edit: they also make a 450 Watt unit, same 5 yr warranty but not sure if it is built by Seasonic

Could not figure out how to add a pictureon this forum, so I went to Tiger Direct and they recommended a Thermaltake TR2 500w that was on sale for $39 with a $20 dollar mail in rebate to go along with the MSI HD 7770 that I got for $69 plus a $15 rebate. I think that's quite an upgrade for $73

All is working right now QUIET and COOL!! The MSI has not gone above 44 C.

Looked it up and the list I found was from 2008. If you look at NewEgg it gets 4 out of 5 eggs with almost 3000 reviews. Amazon 4 out of 5 of 48 reviews and Tiger Direct 5 out of 5 of 60 reviews. I'll take my chances on a $20 psu with great "Real World" reviews as opposed to some list generated by possibly some hack. By the way 500w is probably overkill for this system especially since I am not a gamer.

My PSU is the TR-500 - OEM:CWT ............. Oficially model # TR2-500NL2NC

24 hours now still running quiet and cool. This Dell will be handed down to my son when I build my own PC in the not too distant future. Funny, but Dell has effectively made me a pretty effective do-it-yourselfer. The only component that is OEM is the motherboard and, of course, the crappy box it came in. Never Dell again.....even when I called them their recommendation for a video card was a refurbished $450 unit!
