Do I need a new PSU?

Hello my mate is selling me his Palit 780ti Super Jetstream but I am wondering if I do need a new PSU for it since I just have a FPS Hexa He 600w one.


I have googled but I am still confused on which PSU to get too.


After much deliberation I have decided to replace my current one with either the FSP Aurum 600w (around $86)
FSP Aurum 600w (around $86)

or the Aerocool Strike X 800W (around $111)

My current specs:
i5-4670k (never Oc'ed but bought one by mistake lols)
MSI B85M GAMING Mobo
8GB Ram
ASUS R9 270X DC2TOP
4 Fans
FSP HEXA He-600 http://

*Also if it does matter, my current case is the Carbon Cube

Budget wise I can buy either however at the moment I just want something that I could work with with some headroom just to be safe. I usually use my PC to play games like Fallout 4, FFXIV: ARR, Guild Wars 2 and upcoming titles like The Division, Black Desert Online, No Man's Sky (Not sure if PC or PS4 version), etc.
I was hoping to just get a 700W but there wasn't any available near me and I just couldn't wait.

700W? why? Also, yes, if you want you can go for another PSU, but not for your friend's one. Search trusted one like XFX or EVGA Brands.

The Aurum is on the Teir 3 list whle the Aerocool is on the Tier 4 list. both pretty low quality.

I see no reason to change PSU's unless you are going to OC the CPU or GPU. If you ever plan to OC your CPU or GPU you will want a higher end PSU than the one you have or the ones you listed as options. Huvik posted the tiers and you will want to stay at tier 2 or above if you plan to OC. If you dont plan to OC you are fine with your budget PSU.

Johny Guru did a very good test on the 400watt FSP HEXA(same PSU line so it should translate to the 600 watt model). So its an ok PSU.

Comparison of your old card vs new. Look at the end for power load testing. The total system power for the 780 Ti system is 374 watts which is well within your 600 watt power supplies max output.

@JamesSneed - I think the card is OC'ed out of the box but I will never put a custom OC profile on it too, and yeah, I mistakenly bought a 4670k but I don't plan on overclocking due to the temperatures in my country.

But I am concerned if ever I enter a "zone" with too much loading, which means the rig will need more power and if I choose the 600W, my rig would crash.

I am open to searching for a higher PSU but the hassle is just too damn frustrating. hahaha

I understand with with a cheap power supply I would be a little concerned as well. The cheaply made power supplies tend to die in bad ways and also can cause stability issues that you cant pinpoint like when a game crashes after you play an hour or similar scenarios.

A very good budget friendly but fairly high quality PSU is Seasonic's G Series. The 650 watt version will be more than enough: Model: G-650 (SSR-650RM)

Those power supplies are terrible . I have the raidmax vampire 700w modular continuous 80+ Gold . It competes with the corsair cx 750m . Although raid max is crap, I have fx 8320e and r9 290 I'm that baby . But I'd you have the money , don't blow it on a Chinese power supply . Evga or xfx are great . Seasonic is the best to get . Even a 550 or 600 watt seasonic will run a lot of things
