I want to install the MyDigitalSSD (M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MDRUXNZ/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER) onto the Asus Maximus VIII motherboard. If I understand everything correctly, I can do this by using the PCIe 3.0 x16 slot in x4 mode.

Now, my question is, can I just install the SSD directly to the motherboard and have it sticking straight out and not secured? Or do I need to buy an adapter to mount the SSD to?

If I need to buy an adapter, could you please tell me exactly what I need?

Solution
If that is your only M.2 storage then there is a socket for it on the front edge of the board next to the SATA ports. The four holes lined up are to accommodate different length M.2 drives.

Wow, I didn't even see that...thanks
