Hello there dear Community,

I want to buy myself a GTX 1080ti, because my 1060 is bottlenecking the shit out of my i7-8700k.
I Am currently using a Seasonic S12II-620 PSU with 620 Watt, i just want to know if the 620Watt are still enough to handle a 1080ti and a 8700k, even when slightly overclocked.
Or do i need to buy myself a new PSU? if so could you guys recommend me a good one 😛 ?

Thanks !

Solution

No, you really need to upgrade to a higher end PSU.

The Seasonic Focus Plus 650W is highly recommended.

You need 2 separate cables to power that GTX 1080Ti, your S12II only has PCIe one cable.

From the Seasonic Website.

Seasonic says he has 2 cables for PCI-E
PCIe (8/6 pins) 2 1 x 550 + 100 mm - attached

650w will be enough to run that hardware. However I would consider a new psu simply for an upgrade to something newer/more efficient. That psu is pretty low end compared to a 1080ti and 8700k, but it should work with no problems.

That's 1 cable with 2X connections.

That's a 575w PSU.

And it only has one PCIe cable with 2 connections.

They need two separate cables.
