Do i need a sound card?

So i built a pc but there is no hd audio area on the motherboard. Since i cant use the headphone and microphone jacks on my pc case i was wonder if i need a sound card or i can just buy a monitor with built in speakers and a headphone jack on the monitor itself and use HDMI. Will i be able to get sound or do i really need a sound card?

Yes, if you want to listen to sound, you need either a PCI or PCI-e x1 sound card.
