Do I need a soundcard?

I have a budget of around £40

I dont think that youll notice any major difference with a soundcard for that budget.
I would stick to the onboard audio unless you want to spend 100 pounds.

A ASUS Xonar DGX would be an upgrade for $25 or so, the DX moreso at ~$75. Depends how good the speakers/headphones really are on whether or not you'll hear a difference though.
