Question do i need an atx psu for an atx motherboard or will a regular one work?

hello, i am purchasing a new build and i was wondering if i purchase an atx motherboard do i require an atx psu? not that they cost much more but i am just making sure as i already have a non atx psu (i appologize if the question has been asked but i searched through the forum and couldn't find it)

The PSU should work but just make sure your PSU has a 24pin for the motherboard power connector and a 4 or 8 pin for the CPU. However if the PSU is not a well known model or brand then you risk the chance of having it becoming unstable with the amount of power draw required from a full ATX board.
