Do I need an i7?

Hello, so I currenly upgraded to a 1070ti and a 1440p, 144hz monitor. However, I am still at an i5 7600k running at stock speed (can't overclock because mobo is non-z), I notice that the improvement is not what I expected. I want to target 144hz at 1440p, do I need an i7?

depends on the game, but usually no, maybe only the newest AAA titles. i dont see the need to upgrade till you see your CPU hit 95%+ ingame (and its not a new AAA title with max graphics like AC odisey) Some games are CPU dependent some are more GPU depended, so its all in what you play.

Also it's probably more cost effective getting a better motherboard and overclocking, you can get 5Ghz out of a 7600k.
