Do I need catalyst?

I have my OS restored today, and it automatically download and install my AMD 6670 driver. do I still need to install catalyst if my pc already has driver installed?

i only play sc2 and sometimes shogun 2/napoleon on this desktop. would catalyst make any difference?

Yes.

The driver from AMD is most likely to be newer.

Also, the full CCC package includes AMD codec required for DXVA video playback.

Correct. These advance settings option will not be available as well.
