So I recenty bought myself a 30m ethernet cable to improve my connection to my router, and it is worse than my wirless card. I was just wondering if I had to install any drivers for my cable to make it run smoother. thanks for reading and i hope you can help me :)

The attenuation between CAT5e and CAT6 is higher. If you have the cable in a statically noisey location, this will affect the impedance and cause the cable to pick up more noise and interference over distance, which may be why your connection is slower.

Shielded CAT5e or CAT6a would help.

Cat5e is absolutely fine. Zero 'speed' difference between Cat5e and Cat6. Gigabit speed, up to 100 meters.
Unless, of course, you have some other documentation on this.

A good quality cable, with no sharp bends, should be significantly better than WiFi at that distance.

1. Is the system actually using the cable? As in turn off the WiFi completely.
2. How are you measuring this performance?

If this is a prebuilt, the motherboard's Ethernet drivers were probably installed. Make sure that adapter is enabled in Device Manager. Similarly, disable your wireless adapter. If this is a PC you built yourself, if you did not install the motherboard's Ethernet drivers (since you planned to use wireless), then yes, you will need to do so. If you no longer have the motherboard's disk, the vendor website should have it.
