Do I need just a HDD upgrade, or something else?

Hi there, I built a budget PC around 4 years ago, and everything works great except for the ancient Hard drive we used in it. It's a first or second generation 1Tb, and its louder than hell and my windows 8.1 PC goes bluescreen with NTSF File system errors whenever It's inactive. This means I can't download anything with my slow internet because my PC crashes before it finishes. I've dusted the internals, and checked the ram slots, and all physical troubleshooting looks just fine. I've come to the conclusion that a new Hard drive would be the best solution until I build a new computer.
My question is, once I plug in my new HDD and fire up my PC, what do I do from there. Will I just install my OS, or will I need to find and install my graphics drivers and motherboard drivers as well? I just don't know what all I need to do. Thank you for any help.
