Hi all. I'm playing BF4 online and my fps are all fine and stuff but then it suddenly drops and goes back up and lag spikes and i look at my ram usage and it is very high. I use 4gb drr3 1600 ram. Do i need 8?
Thanks

The RAM isn't your issue, not by a long shot. The amount of RAM isn't going to have a major impact on online play or lag (assuming you have enough to run anyway).

First: What do you mean by "high" that's kind of subjective. 2Gb, 3Gb, how much exactly? And what's using it, the game or something else?
Second: Is there anything running in the background that could cause these issue? I used to have similar problems but I found it was a background program that was running that would occasionally try to download updates that caused lag issues.
8 GB of RAM is usually thought of as the real sweet spot. Just between the Operating System, my anti-virus, some small background programs, and Google Chrome open with 5 tabs including a YouTube video I'm using up 1.83 GB of data. I can imagine it must be quite a bit higher when you're playing Battlefield 4 if that's the case.

However, even Battlefield 4 shouldn't use more than 1.0 - 1.5 GB of RAM. Before I go ahead and truly say that your RAM is the issue (though you might want to grab 8 GB anyway) why don't you list the specs of the rest of your PC? It's easily possible that your GPU or your CPU could be insufficient for BF4.

Actually I hear the memory usage is quite low. According to these benchmarks for the full retail version of the game (as opposed to the Alpha or Beta) the game barely uses that much RAM at all. Take a look:

The varying bars differentiate the different settings of the game.

Hi all. Firstly here are my specs.
i5-4670
ASrock B85 pro4
EVGA 760 Super clocked
4gb corsair Veng 1600
Huntkey 550W

I get about 60-80fps on High settings (depends on the map)
My vid card stays at about 80 celcius which seems to be normal for it according to benchmarks (its the reference cooler)
But when I play on a small team death match map then i have like 100-200mb of ram left. On bigger maps its basically nothing. I try to keep as little running in the back ground running as possible.
I have decided it would anyway be best to buy a second ram stick now. I hope this fixes it.
Thanks all!
