Do I need SP2 for dual core and Sata 2?

I have Windows XP professional with SP1, I am going to build a dual core system. I can't update my Windows with SP2, will I still be able to utilize the Dual core? Also, do I need SP2 for the Sata 2 controller?

It shouldn't make a difference... the only thing you might run into is drives bigger than 137GB may not be fully accessable.
