I went through an issue with Photoshop crashing on this computer and found the culprit to be an "OpenCL and OpenGL Compatibility Pack." I only know about that pack because it showed up in "Apps and Features," when I went through the list uninstalling things while troubleshooting:

open-cl-gl-compat-pak.gif

It apparently came pre-installed when I bought the computer last month,

The only information I can find about that pack is on a Microsoft page:

"This compatibility pack allows more of your favorite OpenCL™ and OpenGL® apps to run on a Windows 10 PC that doesn't have OpenCL and OpenGL hardware drivers installed by default. If a DirectX 12 driver is installed, supported apps will run with hardware acceleration for better performance. This package supports apps that use OpenCL version 1.2 and earlier and OpenGL version 3.3 and earlier."

I read that but it really didn't clarify much to me.
  • e.g. Does my Spectre 2-in-1 "have OpenCL and OpenGL hardware drivers installed by default" ? – How do I check?
  • e.g. "If a DirectX 12 driver is installed, supported apps will run with hardware acceleration for better performance." – What "supported apps" would that affect? (Photoshop?)
  • e.g. "This package supports apps that use OpenCL version 1.2 and earlier and OpenGL version 3.3 and earlier." Are there later versions of OpenCL/Open GL and the package would not work with them? How do I know what OpenCL/OpenGL versions my computer has/uses?
By uninstalling that pack to solve the Photoshop crashes/freezes, have I kneecapped my computer and/or its apps by doing so?

??? Sorry, but I don't follow.

Newer version of ... OpenCL and OpenGL Compatibility Pack? Photoshop? Windows? All of those are (were, in the case of the Compatibility Pack) the latest versions.
