Do I need the same RAM if i'm upgrading? Another question...

So I am thinking of upgrading to 16GB of RAM (I have a 8GB RAM stick right now and it's DDR3 and it's named something like "8GB PC3-10660 CL=9-9-9-24"), will I have to get the same like brand name again or can it be completely different but as long as it's DDR3?

Mixing ram is hit and miss .Even identical modules purchased at separate times can be incompatible.
