Do I need to buy speakers to have sound on my build?

I plan on assembling a gaming desktop soon. My monitor will have built-in speakers so I thought I don't need speakers for now.

If I plug my video card to the monitor via HDMI cable, how will I get sound into my monitor?

I've read that some modern video cards have built-in audio codec, but I'm not sure if mine does.

Will I have sound with just a HDMI connection from video card to monitor? Or should I buy some special cable to connect the motherboard to the monitor, or the video card to the motherboard? If I need to, what cable do I need to buy?

Monitor: ViewSonic VX2370Smh-LED 23.0" Monitor
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 780 3GB Video Card
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

hdmi carries sound, so the monitor can probably get sound from the hdmi, and if not, a 3,5mm to 3.5mm male to male cable from the sound card on the motherboard to the monitor.

FYI, most monitor speakers suck. they are good for basic effects like windows dings but don't expect good music or gaming or movies out of them.

Good point, thank you for your input. I'll just buy some speakers and change my monitor to one that doesn't have built-in speakers.
