Plug it and the Monitor into a Surge Protector that will give you another 3 to 6 feet and prevent Power Spikes zapping your investment.
I would through out the suggestion of going with a UPS so that you are better protected from power surges...as well as power failures. The nicer UPS units like the one I use has active PFC with a connection from the unit to the PC so that it can be monitored from the PC...and the power will adjust to ensure my equipment gets better regulated electricity.

I really enjoy it and have my entire gaming setup hooked up to it. Whenever the power goes out (which is pretty often around here) I still have several hours of usage. It also has a really good warranty on the unit and warranty on my equipment that is hooked up to it if something were to happen.

Of course it cost a few hundred dollars compared to a $30 surge protector, but I wanted to have the thousands of dollars of equipment protected as much as possible.

I only us a UPS on my work computer, power at home goes out maybe 1-2 times a year. For most people the $75 for 15 minutes of backup is a bit much compared to a $25 Surge Protector. It's the OP's call and depends on how reliable his Electric is.
