do i need to download my motherboard raid driver?

hey guys, i am guessing this is common sense, but i want to make sure as this is my first build. i am not going to be using raid, so i will NOT need to download or install the raid driver from my motherboard manufacturer website, correct? just want to make sure.

Correct. If you're not using RAID, there really isn't a point in bloating Windows with unneeded drivers.

If SATA set to AHCI, then I'd test the drives speed in both situations: when using the Microsoft SATA driver and after installing AMD or Intel SATA driver (depending on the board/SATA controller).

yeah i am going to use amd ahci drivers with either the gigabyte 970a ud3p or asus m5a97 r2, i know to download those, but i saw that the raid driver was an option with them and wanted to know if i needed that also

alex, do you recommend microsoft sata driver that installs with windows, or amd's?

I recommend the AMD. Have you installed Windows, or not yet? Is SATA set to AHCI or IDE in BIOS?

i actually have not done the build yet, i just trying to make sure i learn everything as best i can before hand. i am almost positive it will be ahci

Then load the AMD SATA driver during the Windows installation.
