Do I need to install drivers from manufacturer?

So I just finished assembling my first pc, and my friend is telling me not to use the driver discs that came with my motherboard/graphics card. He said my OS (Windows 10 64bit) will auto detect and download/install any drivers, or driver updates I need.

Is this true? Am I good to start installing my games, and playing? Or do I need to install drivers from the manufacturers website? I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, this is the first time I've ever built my own pc and I'm pretty lost right now :(

It doesn't get the latest drivers, just ones that work. IN some cases - like if motherboard is a brand new model - it helps to check manufacturers site to have latest software as it can fix bugs or add new features.

If you had an AMD or Nvidia card, it generally helps to use drivers from them instead of the win 10 versions. MS is usually just a few versions behind.

you never use installer discs as they aren't likely to have the newest drivers on them.

What drivers windows has also depends on age of motherboard. It would appear that MS have newer drivers from Intel than the motherboard maker is providing. If its an old board, then manufacturers may not continue to release drivers for hardware even though Intel do.

windows may just update you to latest anyway.
