Do I need to install this last update (KB3000850) to upgrade to Windows 10?

Since 3pm today I have fought with Windows Update to actually update everything. I finally got 72 of 73 updates downloaded and installed. This last update--the largest update--refuses to install. Seems like it might be an issue with my anti-virus (Avast), but I already tried disabling that and it didn't help.

I've even read that this update causes a lot of issues. For example: starting up your computer and seeing nothing but a black screen. Or Windows Explorer failing to work, causing a lot of desktop issues. I'm not sure if this was fixed or not.

So I'm just hoping I can skip this update, but can I safetly? Like will I run into issues in the future if I try to upgrade to Windows 10 (panning on it tonight).

KB3000850 is an important update for windows 8.1.It rolled out in November 2014 so i don't think it has anything to do with windows 10.

Also many people ran into issues after updating so i think it's safe to skip it.
