Do i need to reinstall Windows 8.1?

If i buy a new motherboard would i be required to reinstall Windows 8.1? I have my original USB with all of the files on, but wanna know if i need to reinstall. Also would i need to look through every file in order to find it or is it automatically detected?

If it's the same board or chipset , most likely no re-install needed. Different platform would need a backup and re-install.

So i am currently using the MSI z97 Gaming 3 and want to buy the MSI H370. I am guessing that the files on my USB won't be valid for the new motherboard?

You would need a fresh install of windows because of the chipset change and different drivers needed for it.

Old drivers can't be used.

Ok. Thank you so much. One last question though; would i need a new SSD and HDD or are they good for the fresh install? Or just wipe both of them before reinstalling?

Is the OS on the SSD? Storage HDD? If so I only format the SSD when installing windows.

I believe that the OS is only on the USB. If it was on the SSD how would i check?
