Hi Everyone,
I've recently bought a blu-ray writer and a 23" Samsung 2343bw monitor. I've ripped some discs onto my harddrive, but I found that the video is very laggy. I'm not sure if the bottleneck is with my CPU or videocard, or both 🙁
I bought this computer 2 years ago. Here's my current build:
Asus P5B
Intel E6300
2GB DDR2 RAM
One 500GB SATA harddrive and one 1TB SATA harddrive
Pioneer DVR-112D dvd writer
LG BH08 SATA blu-ray writer
BFG 7600 GT OC 256mb DDR3
Crappy no-name 450w PSU
I was planning to buy either a 9600GT 512MB DDR3 or 4670HD 1GB DDR3 video card. I'm just afraid that my CPU is the bottleneck and after spending $100 to upgrade the video card, I find that I have to spend another 200-300 on the CPU/motherboard. I'm GUESSING I also might need to upgrade the PSU, there's no 6pin power plug on it. The PSU is pretty stable for the moment, it hasn't crashed or froze my computer in the past 2 years.
I'm using this computer to view ripped m2ts videos, blu-ray discs (minor complaint, I have to watch blu-ray using VGA, because my video card is not HDCP compliant), minor video encoding/photo editing (current video encoding and photo editing speeds are fine for me). The only video games I play are not graphic intensive. The newest game I bought and played only required P4 2.8Ghz and a 128mb 3d video card.
I don't anticipate being a heavy gamer in the recent future either.
Can anyone chime in with their opinions? Should I invest in a better videocard or not? My budget for the whole upgrade is under $200CDN. Thank you! 😍
