Hi Folks,
Yes, this is a strange question coming from someone who's been building their own computers for at least the last 6 years... Then again, when applicable, I've always made clear that I was no expert in the field.
I've installed a "temporary motherboard" (Asrock Z97 OC Formula), about 1.5 weeks ago while MSI has my RMA'd Z97 MPower MAX AC board for repair/replacement. All other hardware I had installed when the MSI board was operating is installed with the Asrock board now. (My basic system specs are below)
I'm trying to avoid installing superfluous software because I intend to re-install the MSI board as soon as I get it back in a few more weeks. As I said, I've had the Asrock board running for over a week and it's doing fine.
However, I'm not all that certain if this driver: (VGA(v15.36.25.64.4280), is necessary considering that I have an external GPU installed. I'm just as uncertain of what this driver is for and even if it hasn't already been installed anyway!
My guess, (I stress that point), is that the driver is needed for any on-board graphics controllers whether they be coupled with the board, the CPU, or both.
If I'm correct, then I don't need to install it and if it's installed already, then I could even remove it, No? Of course, that's if "I'm correct" but I'm likely to be wrong in part or completely.
Can someone tell me if this VGA driver, (or any "VGA driver"), is required if the GPU is independent of the CPU and/or motherboard?
Thank you,
Rich
PS: my basic system specs at present are:
Windows 7 64bit
Asrock Z97 OC Formula
i7-4790K (Devils Canyon)
EVGA Geforce GTX 1070
G-Skill Rip Jaws 2400MHz x 2
