Do I really need 6gb GPU?

Solution

On a single 1080p monitor I don't see any reason to go with a 6GB for VRAM alone. Maybe if you plan to get more monitors, or higher def monitors, but 3GB is really great for 1080p gaming.

That said, do note what was mentioned earlier about VRAM not being the only difference between some 3GB and 6GB cards. Some 6GB have better specs in general.

They will perform exactly the same as long as the game is using less than 3gb VRAM.

With games that use a lot of VRAM you can turn down the settings a little to keep them below 3gb, but with a 6gb card you wouldn't need to do this at all.

I play on one monitor at 1920x1080. I would play typical games like battfield, doom, COD, CSGO etc

I'd still get the 6GB if possible. If the OP is gona play any kind of future games.

However, OP, if your ok with playing on ultra but disabling AA and turning textures down, the 3GB will do fine.

Not true. 3 gb version has 1152 cuda cores, vs 1280 in 6 gb. Which means, even when game uses less then 3gb vram, 3 gb version will still give about 10% FPS less then 6 gb version. Check Tom's review http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-graphics-card-roundup,review-33833-8.html

Yeah but because of the fewer CUDA cores, the 1060 3GB has a tad more overclocking headroom, so it can easily compensate for the lack of cores by higher frequencies.
