Do I really need a faster CPU?

Hello, I was wondering do I really need a faster cpu than what I already having for upcoming 2015 pc games and next-gen games, such as rainbox six siege, the division, etc. I already have the amd fx-6100 six core processor (3.3ghz). If I were to upgrade I would buy the fx-8320.

For gaming you won't see a significant improvement between a 6300 and an 8320. Your best option is to buy the best cooling you can afford and overclock.

Yes a FX8320 would be a lot faster than a FX6100. Even a FX4300 or an older Phenom x6 1090t or 1100t would be better. The FX6100 is absolutely terrible single core performance.

I don't actually recommend ANY AMD cpus for "next gen gaming" since all of the FXs are so old now.

Intel seems to be the way to go until AMD releases some new material. I recommend an i5 4460 or 4590 + H97 motherboard.

Yes the distinction is how a single core performs. The number of instructions per clock (efficiency) that a single core can achieve. Intel has a much better IPC value. But switching from AMD to Intel is a major change -- new motherboard, re-install the OS, etc.

I did misread your original post. The 6100 (rather than the 6300 as I originally read) might benefit from upgrading to the 8320E (no reason not to get the lower power version).

Yes your cpu has 6 cores and every one of them are slow. A new dual core Pentium would be much faster 80% of the time. You would benefit more from a stronger single core performance.

Would there be any remarkable difference? Also, I can't run intel my mobo is amd. So, would the 8320 processor make any significant difference than the 6100 in terms of performance

Utter rubbish get an evo 212 and a 6300(or 8320) o\clock it to 4 gig and with the right G\card will run anything, if you get the evo first you could try oc your 6100, ive got a 6300 and an r9 290x and can run anything in ultra at 1080, i game on a 4k monitor and can run anything at 4k i have to reduce some detail on most (not all)games but thats down to the g\card. I'm sick of intel fan boys trying to convince everyone to get their cpu's, yes you will get a few more fps with them but wuold you notice the difference ? i think not

It is going to depend on what benchmark you care to look at. Just Google "8320 vs 6100" You can see comparisons that show about a 20% improvement. Is that significant to what YOU do? Only you can answer that.

Any FX x3xx cpu is going to be an upgrade for you. That is the easiest and most logical upgrade for you. Just make sure your motherboard supports the FX x3xx cpus.
