Question is do I really need a GTX 970?
if I really need a GTX 970, would the GTX 970 Palit Jetstream any good? there's a huge price gap between the palit and 2 other brands

else would a gtx 960/r9 280/280x/290 suffice?

GTX 970 G1 gaming price here is $426
GTX 970 MSI GAMING 4G here is $420
GTX 970 Palit Jetstream here is $319

GTX 960 G1 gaming price here is $235
GTX 960 MSI Twin Frozr 2gb is $230
GTX 960 Zotac Dual Fan 2gb is $202

yeah, price sucks here in Philippines.

Please do note that next year I'll upgrade my system to a skylake refresh system.
Thank you!

Actually, the jetstram (palit) as better performance than MSI according to this site for BF4 - you win 2fps (@1080p) with the Palit over the MSI ...
Hello ,

if you plan to run BF4 or GTA V with Ultra settings 970 should be the one to go.. 960 is not bad but its a middlerange card and you will not be able to run latest games on Ultra settings..

Hi! Yes. I actually read a ton of reviews/videos regarding the gtx 960 and 970.

a GTX 960 running a BF4 with ultra settings is 50 - 80fps (which is somewhat acceptable I think?)

is the GTX 970 Palit Jetstream okay for $319 vs GTX 970 MSI GAMING 4G for $420?

it's really a huge price gap for a little boost (also I don't plan to SLI)

Yes, 970 palit is just fine.
960 AND 970 are actually midrange cards, 970 is just in the upper range of midrange. Good card for the value, bear in mind that the 970 technically has 3.5 gb vram, and not 4 gb, since the last 0.5 gb is pretty much useless. (They f'ed up.)

Some people look at a 980 ti... Do they need it? No. Do they want it? Yes. Why? Futureproofing might be one answer. The 970 will last longer than the 960. If you buy the 960 atleast buy one with 4gb vram. 2gb is too low nowadays, and especially if you are thinking forward.

Hi I honestly don't know if you can trust palit.. It may be ok or not.. Anyway I dont know very much this brand so maybe wait for an answer from someone that does.. Would like to give you a more precise answer.. but I dont want to give you a wrong answer..
Also if GTX960 gives you 50FPS as minimum it should be enought for sure.. but believe me a GTX 970 should be the one to go.. its an high end card and 960 just a middle range.. (anyway it doesn't mean you can play with high settings with the 960 but soonner or later it will not be enought for the upcoming games.. and on that point of view the gtx970 will be better because it will be up to date for way more time ..

cheers

What graphics card do you have now?
If you are running on integrated graphics, most any discrete graphics card will be a major boost.

The guts of most all GTX970 cards come from nvidia, the cards differ mainly in the amount of factory overclock and the fancy coolers.
I would have no problem with palit, particularly with that big of a price difference.

If your budget can support the $319 for a GTX970, go with that.
If you buy a lesser card, you will always second guess yourself.

Moreover, your upgrade to Skylake can definitely drive a very strong graphics card.

Yeah. I don't think I can justify the price difference of $120 for the other brands. they're pretty much the same anyways.

I think I'll go with Palit GTX 970 Jetstream because of the fair price and the 2w repl, 1y store, 1y distro, 2y mfgr wty
in that way I can easily save up for a skylake refresh system with a Phanteks Enthoo Pro white

If people mention Palit is good.. Than just go with the Palit 970... Anyway nowadays almost only the brand names are different so .. I think you can trust it.. just make sure you have at least 2 years warranty..

cheers

- Seems to me, the best relation Price/quality is still the Palit

so it's really not a big performance gap between the MSI and Palit right? not 10fps++?

Actually, the jetstram (palit) as better performance than MSI according to this site for BF4 - you win 2fps (@1080p) with the Palit over the MSI :

You can compare more games there..

From what I understand the palit seems a very good choice (best price/performance relation)

cheers.
