Do I really need L3 cache? athlon 2 vs phenom 2

Im thinking of getting either an athlon II x4 or a phenom II x4 chip.

All I really do is play games. I don't do any video editing or anything else that require a lot of computing speed. Do I need the Phenoms l3 cache? Is the extra price worth it?
