Do I upgrade from 7700k to 8700k

Solution
Depends on what you do. For most games, 5+ years. For heavily threaded productivity, 0 years since ThreadRipper and Slyake-X would be better suited for that.

Coffee Lake isn't compatible with z170/270, so you'll need a new motherboard too if you choose to upgrade anyway.

No way I'd upgrade my mobo and cpu for that kind of performance difference. 8700k is a good chip, but 7700k is still an elite gaming chip still and holds up pretty good in productivity compared to Ryzen. You're buying a more expensive mobo too for coffee lake too. 7700k becomes super attractive if it gets a price drop too.

i woudnt do that, not even if u need it for productivity. if you're gaming or productivity, there is still no need for an upgrade
