Hi. Im gonna buy a i5 4670k cpu. Im wondering if the thermal paste is on the cpu or on the stock cooler. I want to buy an aftermarket cpu cooler and paste. If the paste is on the cooler then i dont have to clean anything, but if its on the cpu then i have to buy high percentage alcohol.

Solution
Thermal compound is on the cooler that comes with i5 4670k. Top surface of the CPU is cleaned so no need to clear it anyway and you don't need solution with high percentage of alcohol for cleaning of CPU as there would be no paste on it.

Don't know about your budget, but here are certain recommendations of coolers for you:

Corsair H100i
Noctua NH-D14 (RAM clearance and Case clearance needs to be checked)
Noctua NH-U14S
Noctua NH-D15 (RAM clearance and Case clearance needs to be checked)
Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212

Regards,
If you buy a boxed CPU, the included heatsink will have a pad of thermal paste on it.
If you buy a tray CPU, there will be no thermal goop on the chip or provided.

Thermal paste or not, it is never a bad idea to clean the surface before installation.
High percentage Isopropyl Alcohol and a lint free cloth (coffee filters also work good) is the way to go!

Yes, the Dark Rock 3 has thermal paste included.

My goto thermal compound is GELID GC-Extreme.
Unless you look at ultra cheap thermal greases, there is generally not a huge performance difference between thermal compounds.
Sticking with the included compound is probably your best bet.

I have a bitfenix shinobi windowed case. On their site (http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/chassis/shinobi#support) it says that the case supports maximum 165 mm height cpu coolers. Dark rock is 160mm but what about the motherboard, will it really fit in that case? Have been trying to get an answer on that question for days, all forums and threads say different tings. If someone managed to fit a 160mm cooler inside a shinobi wndowed case, please help.

Im gonna get the dark rock 3. If it wont fit ill send back the case and buy a bigger one. Just love the shinobis look. However, thanks for the help guys, especially EasyLover, you helped me a lot.
:)
