I currenltly have an MSI Z97-G55 motherboard in my build. I know that I can plug in my audio cable into the motherboard via the colored holes, but I have a slight concern.

I want to get a Blue Spark microphone, as I intend to record with the PC. I was reading up on some reviews and they said that in order for the microphone to have power, the sound card needs to have Phantom Power. So my question is, does a motherboard (specifically, in my case, the Z97-G55) "sound card" have/support phantom power?

If not, will I need to buy a sound card or additional software/hardware?

Thanks in advance. :)

i happened to look at some of your other, previous threads you created in response to your recent build thread...so this answer is a bit belated....

no.

you will need either a phantom power adapter or audio interface.

is there a reason why you are bypassing options such as the blue yeti and at2020usb+ or are you just looking for something one step above said products?

Alright, thanks!

And yes, I am looking for a high quality mic too. Not that the mentioned aren't high quality, but I would like, as you said, something one step above the said products.

Thanks again!

just a word of advice...

the extra money spent on the microphone might be better spent on the pc build so that you can get video performance to match your audio performance.

eg... upgrading to the next tier graphics card or buying a video capture card with the money saved from buying an at2020usb+ or blue yeti over what you are looking at plus an adapter/audio interface.

completely your call though... just some thoughts for you to think on.
