Do ram speeds really matter?

That is a very vague question. For your mom watching youtube videos and reading e-mail, no. For an office desktop, no. It depends on what you are doing, what your budget is, and whether the last 10% of possible performance is important.

For ryzen gaming, yes you need fast ram. 3000 or more.
For intel gaming, you still will want fastish ram, but 2666 can do.
For any cpu and web browsing,ram speed matters less.

I already watched this video earlier, which is why i asked the question. I was curious about second opinions on it

For ryzen gaming, yes you need fast ram. 3000 or more.
For intel gaming, you still will want fastish ram, but 2666 can do.
For any cpu and web browsing,ram speed matters less.

I was going to buy 2x4gb ddr4 3200mhz of ram for a standard (no oc) ryzen 5 2600 or maybe a ryzen 5 1600

Looks good. I wouldn't drop ram speed below 3200 or 3000mhz for any Ryzen CPU.
