Do rollover minutes carry over if I change plans?

We're thinking about changing our plan, but we were wondering if the
rollover minutes carry over to the new plan. (I suppose the answer might
be on the website, but the customer service area seems to not be working
at the moment.) Anybody have any answers? Thanks!

When I switched from my GAIT plan to a GSM plan a week or so ago, I was told
that I would lose all of my rollover minutes. I'm not sure if it would work
the same way if you switched from one type of plan to the same type.

Why did you switch from GAIT to GSM? My wife and I are torn between the
two. I like the phone selection better for GSM, but that GAIT coverage...

I switched from GAIT to GSM for four reasons, basically:

1) As you said, the phones are better (I much prefer a flip phone).

2) I can get more minutes for a cheaper price.

3) The new GSM plans give you free mobile-to-mobile minutes, which I use
extensively now.

4) Over the last year, everywhere that I have travelled has had GSM coverage
(as I mainly stick to the interstates and larger municipal areas/cities when
traveling).

I wanted to change from the GAIT to GSM Nation plan also. Went to visit
my friendly Cingular store last week and was told they have no GSM phones
that will fit in my three car kits, even though I was told when I bought
them and had them installed in my wife's, daughter's, and my car that
".....we will always carry a phone that will fit in them." Well, the only
phone they have (had) that will fit is the 6340i, and it is being phased
out.

It burns my a** that Nokia does not make their car kits so that all you
have to replace is the phone holders, and plug everything back together.
They MIGHT sell more kits that way!!!

It would cost me about $700 to replace the car kits, plus whatever I
would pay for 3 new phones, so I guess I will stay on GAIT and try to find
one or two spare 6340i's for a while, or until Mom and I buy new cars.

I'm on the same page as you Mike, a car kit makes a huge difference in
the usability of a cell phone for all the right reasons. A car kit
option has always been a major selling point for my equipment choices,
and is the primary reason I continue with my 6340i. The 6340i may not
be heavy on glamour, but many times I've been in off-road areas where
GSM-only phones are listening to crickets, and my 6340i w/car kit is
still singing the GSM tune. Certainly areas exist where TDMA or
Analogue would be necessary, but I've yet to know one in my daily travels.

What phone did/do you have that shows the different carrier (ie:GSM vs TDMA)?
There is no indication at all on the Nokia 6340i.

Basically, the only way to tell on the 6340i is to look at the display
during a call. If the softkey option is "Hold," that means that you are on
GSM at the time. If the softkey option is "Mute," that means that you are
on TDMA.

When you buy a new car, get one with bluetooth built-in and then you can use
any bluetooth phone with the car.

I'm afraid you've missed the point here. A car kit, in our context, is
a comprehensive equipment package typically installed by a professional
installer. At a minimum, a Nokia CARK-91H provides the following...

Secure handset cradle
External power/charger
Hands-free speaker/mike operation
Privacy handset (separate from cradled handset)
External dual-band antenna
Ringer in speaker
Auto-mute car radio

Yes, some B/T phones provide a hands-free headset, but the handset is
still floating around somewhere disconnected from any external
advantage. Very unconvienent, IMO.

I just changed from a TDMA plan to a GSM plan and kept the rollover. The
person I talked to said if you select a new plan with rollover, you will not
lose your rollover. At least in this market, Arkansas.

Odd, I am in the Arkansas market also, but they told me that I would lose my
rollover minutes.

Did you go to a plan with rollover? If not you will lose the rollover
minutes.
It might be worth a call back.
