No, you need to transfer the alchemy or carpentry skill, and then read
another book from gargoyle city. They do not transfer, probably because they
don't show up in the skills list, which is what the soulstones seem to be
tied into. If you transfer them BACK to the original character, that
character seems to retain the skill, though.
