Anyone with this infamous problem seen it go away with the new Cats? I ended
up using the .dll file from an older version of the drivers to get KOTOR to
run without all those crashes when going to a new area.

One shouldn't have to resort to manually replacing a .dll file with an older
version to get a game that won 50 Game of the Year awards to run without
locking up.

This is, frankly, making me leery of ATI cards for my next upgrade. The
problems with KOTOR have been well-known (read the Bioware boards) and each
new driver release seemed to introduce some new and exciting problem. The
4.5's made scenes involving grass shudder along, while the 4.6's caused
continual crashes to desktop in transitions.

What gives here? This is a game that has been out for about a year and the
drivers are still buggy? Worse, an older version of the drivers seems to fix
the problems introduced in the later releases.

i had no problems with knights of the old republic.
ati 9700 pro cat 4.5 drivers, it did crashe 3 or 4 time the hole time well
thats in 20 hrs of playing but most of that was due to overclocking.

if your crashing more than that i would look at other thing other than
drivers.

Cat 4.5 was stable on area transitions, but introduced really choppy
gameplay in areas featuring grass. The Cat 4.6 fixed the choppiness, but
introduced crashing to desktop when transitioning to a new area.

Again, I am now using a .dll file from an older version (Cat 4.2 I think) to
get the game to run right.
