Question Do the thermal pads on m.2 covers expire?

I removed the plastic peel from my m.2 msi shield frozr cover thing when i first built my pc even though I didn't use a nvme then, I read some say not to use it but it seems fine just a little dusty.
Are there any issues using it still?

Should have no problems unless it's dried up and crumbling.
