Do the video cards have to be the same brands as well as model to works in sli

I have an asus gtx 550 ti, do i have to use another asus gtx 550 ti or can i use another brand like galaxy gtx 550 ti for both cards to work in sli mode.

No they don't have to be the same, I use an Asus 460 with a Sparkle 460 in SLI.

they have to be the same card you would need another 550 ti, it does not matter what brand they are though.

for example you could not pair a gtx 560 ti with a gtx 550 ti.

But you still have to make sure that the cards have the same Core, Memory Clocks or you'll have to OC the lowest card.

otherwise the faster card will down clock to the slower card. You essentially would be buying (if you do not oc your current card) performance that wont be used.
