I just built a computer, and the USB ports don't work.

I can use a mouse and keyboard, but it won't recognize a USB drive.

My motherboard: gigabyte z170x gaming 7.

So my question is: do I need drivers for the USB port to recognize USB drives?

Thanks in advance

Solution
there is no USB support for Windows 7 on Skylake chipsets. You will need to use a CD Rom drive to install Win7 and the drivers.

Please, this seems to me to mean that even after Windows 7 is installed USB function for USB 2 and 3 is not available. Is this correct?

Thanks. The USB utility for my board at the top of this page http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5485#utility will probably get the job done -- what do you think? Do you know of any experience using this utility download at Gigabyte with a Skylake and Windows 7 install?
